Chigaya Bakery
A moment to unwind in the city.
Set in a renovated traditional house in Morishita, Chigaya Bakery offers pillowy cream-filled doughnuts, crusty an-butter sandwiches, and an eclectic range of freshly baked breads.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
The signature doughnuts showcased in the display case are characterized by their light, pillowy dough and satisfying sweetness. Choices range from luscious cream doughnuts generously filled with smooth custard to spiced cinnamon options and pistachio-topped variations, making it easy to tailor your pick to the mood of the day.
Beyond the doughnuts, the bakery turns out hearty loaves and rolls with plenty of chew, such as the An Butter sandwich—tucking rich sweet red bean paste and butter between crusty bread—and the savory Edama Me, studded with edamame and cheese chunks. Other savory and sweet options include a hot dog topped with house-made chili beans, a bread baked with cream cheese and figs, and fragrant cinnamon rolls laced with cinnamon and allspice.
Housed in a lovingly renovated kominka (traditional Japanese wooden house), the space exudes a calm, nostalgic charm. You can pick out breads and baked treats to take home on the 1st floor, or carry your selection up to the 2nd floor seating area to enjoy with a cafe latte or brewed coffee. It serves equally well as a quick neighborhood bakery stop on a stroll or a quiet perch for tea and a doughnut.
